Otvoritev razstave in zvočni dogodek v sodelovanju s Tomažem Gromom: 10. 3. 2022 ob 20. uri
Svetišče svetega strahu deluje kot avtomaton brez neposredne interakcije s človekom. Delo tako ni zasnovano kot vmesnik, temveč kot stroj, ki je fizično in metaforično osredotočen na samega sebe.
Osem medeninastih plošč, ki obdajajo notranje jedro, delujejo kot osnovni vir zvoka in kot nekakšna simbolna zaščita za notranje delovanje. V središču skulpturalnega svetišča računalnik aktivira mehanizme in ustvari skrivnostno zvočno izkušnjo, ki združuje digitalno natančnost z živahnim akustičnim dogajanjem.
Umetniško delo je bilo navdihnjeno z izkušnjami iz tradicionalnih japonskih Shinto svetišč, v katerih duhovi naseljujejo različne objekte. Preprosta uporaba digitalnih tehnologij, sestavljenih v oltarno obliko, ustvarja mistično občutenje, ki ga namesto ob tradicionalnih objektih iz svetišč dosežemo skozi vseprisotno tehno-estetiko sodobnega sveta. ‘Svetišče svetega strahu’ namiguje na nekatere mistifikacije tehnologiziranega sodobnega sveta, preplašenost odtujenih posameznikov in romantiziranje samozadostnosti.
Laurits Esben Jongejan je danski skladatelj in zvočni umetnik z magisterijem iz elektronske glasbe na Kraljevi glasbeni akademiji Danske (DIEM.) Umetniško se izraža s prostorskimi postavitvami, elektronsko glasbo, videom in uprizoritveno umetnostjo. Ponavljajoča se tema v njegovih glasbenih in vizualnih delih so odnosi med tehnologijo in ljudmi. Pogosto ustvarja situacije, kjer je človeška interakcija s strojem rahlo dvoumna in skrivnostna. Njegova dela so bila med drugim razstavljena v SMK, Glyptoteket in Kunsthal Aarhus, izdaja pa pri založbah Help Recodings in Regelbau.
Projekt je del cikla zvočnih dogodkov Bitshift, ki ga podpirata Ministrstvo za kulturo Republike Slovenije in Mestna občina Ljubljana – Oddelek za kulturo.

Exhibition opening and performative sound event with Tomaž Grom: 10. 3. 2022 at 8 PM
A shrine of Sacred Fear functions as an automaton with no immediate capacity for human interaction. The piece doesn’t present an interface, but rather a machine centred both physically and metaphorically around its own midpoint. The eight brass plates enclosing the inner core function both as the main sound source of the piece, and as a kind of symbolic protection for the inner workings. At the centre a computer activates the mechanical workings, creating an enigmatic sonic experience combining digital accuracy with an acoustic vigorous performance.
The piece draws inspiration from traditional Japanese Shinto shrines, in which a force or spirit can be housed in a physical object. Using digital technology as the starting point for a simplistic ritual setting, allows for a contemporarily relevant experience created for the present instead of the past. A Shrine of Sacred Fear discusses the use of mysticism in a modern world, fear on an individual level, as well as a romanticisation of self-indulgence.
Laurits Esben Jongejan is a Danish composer and sound artist. He has a Master’s degree in electronic music from The Royal Academy of Music Denmark, DIEM. He works within the fields of installation art, electronic music, video art and theatre. A recurring theme in his work, both as a composer and visual artist, is the relations between technology and humans. Often presented as scenarios where the human interaction with the machine is somewhat ambiguous and enigmatic. His works have been exhibited, among other places at SMK, Glyptoteket and Kunsthal Aarhus, and he has multiple releases at Help Recodings and Regelbau.
